Fifth Disease. When a medically confirmed case of Fifth disease becomes known in a school, the Board’s protocol on Fifths will be followed.

Fifth Disease. When a medically confirmed case of Fifth Disease in the school becomes known to the principal, the principal will notify all school employees forthwith. If a pregnant employee is at risk, it is the employee’s responsibility to visit their physician for immunity testing at the employee’s cost as soon as possible. The employee may use a sick leave day for the visit to the employee’s physician for the test. During the waiting period pending receipt of the test results, the employee will immediately be reassigned out of their regular workplace to an alternate site. As soon as it is available to the employee, the employee will forward the medical documentation to Human Resources immediately. Employees with immunity to Fifth Disease will return to their regular work site. Employees without immunity will continue to be reassigned out of their regular work site until twenty (20) continuous days have elapsed since the last confirmed case of Fifth Disease at the employee’s regular work site.
Fifth Disease. When a case of Fifth Disease in the school becomes known to the Principal, he or she shall notify the school staff. If a pregnant Teacher is advised by her physician not to attend the workplace where there is a known case of Fifth Disease, the Teacher may, with a doctor’s note remain at home without loss or gain of salary and without loss of sick leave credits. In this case, the Teacher may remain at home without loss or gain of salary and without loss of sick leave credits until twenty (20) days have passed since the last reported case. The Teacher may also be assigned to an alternative work location (Board Office) where there is no known case of Fifth Disease until twenty (20) days have passed since the last reported case.
Fifth Disease. While a pregnant teacher’s immunity status is being determined, the teacher will be placed into an alternate assignment. It is understood that an alternate placement may include: - a daily occasional assignment which is no more than 60 km from the teacher’s school (It is understood that this teacher will be placed ahead of Occasional Teacher call-outs); - central assignment at one of the Board Offices; - assignment to a school which is no more than 60 km from the teacher’s school, as additional staff. The Board will determine the assignment on a case-by-case basis. If it is deemed that she is not at risk, the teacher will return to her original position. If it is determined that she is at risk, she will continue to be assigned as identified above until the outbreak is over (20 days with no confirmed cases).

Fifth Disease. Upon request from her physician, subject to consultation with the school medical advisor, a pregnant teacher may be excused from her duties when there exists a risk of contagion of a disease potentially harmful to the fetus (including but not limited to Fifth Disease). Such leave shall be charged to sick leave to the extent accrued and shall thereafter be without pay but with benefits. Such teachers shall return after tests established immunity from the disease or when otherwise her physician, in consultation with the school medical advisor, determines the teacher may return to work. The Board shall bear the cost of any consultation with the school medical advisor.

Fifth Disease. When a long-term occasional teacher is working in a school where fifth disease has been confirmed and the long-term occasional teacher may be at risk, the long-term occasional teacher will be offered the opportunity to be placed on a priority call out for TESS. When a casual occasional teacher accepts an assignment and upon arrival is notified that there is a confirmed case of Fifth Disease in the school and the occasional teacher may be at risk, the casual occasional teacher shall have the right to decline the assignment and will be offered the opportunity to be reassigned provided there is an open assignment available that day.
Fifth Disease. The Principal will make it a priority to notify the members of E.T.F.O. as soon as possible if a case of Fifth Disease is reported in the workplace.
