Elementary Instructional Day Clause Samples
The "Elementary Instructional Day" clause defines the standard length and structure of the school day for elementary students. It typically specifies the number of instructional hours required, outlines start and end times, and may address exceptions such as early release or special schedules. By clearly establishing these parameters, the clause ensures consistency in educational delivery and helps schools comply with state or district regulations regarding minimum instructional time.
Elementary Instructional Day. The elementary instructional day will be five (5) hours and thirty (30) minutes in grades one (1) to five (5). The kindergarten instructional day will be two (2) hours and forty-five (45) minutes for A.M. and P.M. sessions.
Elementary Instructional Day. 17.6.1. The maximum length of the instructional day for grades K-2 shall not exceed 296 minutes on regular days and 247 minutes on minimum days.
17.6.2. For Kindergarten, the first three (3) calendar weeks of the school year shall be approximately 200 minutes each day.
17.6.3. The length of the instructional days for grades 3-5 shall not exceed 321 minutes on regular days and 247 minutes on minimum days.
17.6.4. Collaboration time is provided to allow for a systematic process, in which people work together, interdependently, to analyze and impact professional practice in order to improve student learning.
17.6.5. Each elementary school shall have a short Wednesday schedule for collaboration (as outlined in 17.6.5.1 and 17.6.5.

17.6.4.1. Ten (10) Wednesdays per year shall be designated for site professional development, grade level meetings, district meetings, professional responsibilities and growth, collaboration and scoring PBAs. Three of these days may be used for district grade level meetings, professional development and growth, collaboration, and scoring PBAs. Seven of these days shall be available for the principals to present site-related staff development. If there are no scheduled activities on these Wednesdays, the site administrators may use this time for faculty meetings (See Article 17.9)
17.6.4.2. The time on other Wednesdays between the end of the site instructional day and the time the site instructional day ends on regular days is a planning/preparation period. During the planning/preparation period, classroom teachers shall be required to participate in school-related work as determined by the unit member. Meetings may be scheduled on these
17.6.4.3. Normally, each unit member will remain at school on Wednesday as long as on other workdays.

17.6.3.1. The maximum length of the instructional day for grades K-2 shall not exceed 296 minutes on regular days and 247 minutes on minimum days.
17.6.3.2. For Transition Kindergarten and Kindergarten, the first three (3) calendar weeks of the school year shall be approximately 200 minutes each day.
17.6.3.3. The length of the instructional days for grades 3-5 shall not exceed 321 minutes on regular days and 247 minutes on minimum days.
17.6.3.4. Collaboration time shall be provided to allow for a systematic process, in which people work together, interdependently, to analyze and impact professional practice in order to improve student learning.
17.6.3.5. Each elementary school shall have a short Wednesday schedule for collaboration (as outlined in 17.6.3.5.1. and 17.6.3.5.2). This collaboration schedule is to provide time for a combination of collaborative staff activities, to include: collaborative curriculum/instructional planning time; goal setting; collaborative data analysis; assessment development; professional learning, in a variety of configurations: team, department, grade level and staff, problem solving teams / cycle of inquiry, PLCs.
17.6.3.5.1. Ten (10) Wednesdays per year shall be used for site staff meetings/professional development;
17.6.3.5.2. Ten (10) Wednesdays per year shall be used as site directed collaboration days (school level, grade level, cross grade level);
17.6.3.5.3. Three (3) Wednesdays per year shall be used as teacher directed (teacher led) collaboration (grade level, cross grade level, staff).
17.6.3.5.4. These 23 days (referenced above) shall end at the regularly scheduled work day (20 minutes after the last bell on a regular school day).
17.6.3.5.5. Three of the site staff meetings/professional development Wednesdays may be used for district grade level meetings, professional development and growth, collaboration, and scoring PBAs. These three district meetings shall be scheduled for ninety (90) minutes and end by 3:30 p.m.
17.6.3.5.6. Site Leadership Teams shall meet to discuss and agree upon the schedule and focus of the Collaboration Wednesdays in accordance with Article 17.6
