Integration: to be able to understand connections between various concepts that we study. 3. Critical thinking: to apply the ideas learned in one area to evaluate and solve problems in another area. We assume that among firm objectives is the creation of wealth for shareholders in an ethical and legal manner. The creation of wealth for shareholders in an ethical and legal manner is the guiding principle for this course. Course materials are organized around three main topics. The course begins by first examining how much the capital markets will pay for a security sold by the firm. Central to this first topic is a solid understanding of a capital asset pricing theory. We, as firm managers, need some theory of capital market pricing before we can sit down at our desk to evaluate, select, and manage business projects. This follows as the capital markets are the source of the funds we invest. We need to understand shareholder value before we go about trying to create additional shareholder value. Second, we examine how wealth is created through an optimal firm-level investment policy, while operating globally. We focus on understanding the key intuition behind alternative project evaluation techniques. Understanding how various aspects of financial economics affects project value has numerous practical implications. The practical, applied knowledge and the related skills we refine in this course are designed to further enhance the professional manager’s leadership capacity. One way this manifests itself is by the manager thinking, speaking and managing insightfully with regard to why risk and return, capital markets, the law of one price, alternative valuation techniques, alternative capital budgeting tools, etc. effect the creation of wealth by managers managing real projects. The course is about performance: which firms win, which firms lose, and why. We challenge basic assumptions about business and strategy, beginning with understanding what “performance” really means. Some of the key questions we will address in this course include: How do managers help gain and sustain competitive advantage for their firms? What are the key factors that determine performance? How should we compete in our business? In which businesses or industries should we compete? The course is an integrative course which is designed to pull together, through the concept of strategy, what you have learned in various functional areas of accounting, finance, marketing, economics, and operations. To be successful, managers must recognize the systemic nature of organizations. That is, strategies must be consistent with the internal and external environments of the firm, and all functional- level decisions need to be consistent with and supportive of the overall strategy. It is important to recognize and understand how decisions in one area ripple throughout an organization. In this course you will bring together all of the business fundamentals and use them to study company-wide, organizational issues. Strategic thinking, or the ability to think broadly and opportunistically at all levels in the organization within the context of a larger corporate vision, is considered key to competitive advantage. This course is designed to help you develop the strategic thinking skills and integration abilities necessary to apply your business education to the overall management function within an organization.
cac2825fc455d644466006b4aa045f59
[21, 29]},
[57, 66]},
[108, 133]},
[139, 170]},
[184, 192]},
[262, 270]},
[271, 283]},
[293, 317]},
[326, 348]},
[366, 380]},
[406, 421]},
[436, 450]},
[458, 486]},
[524, 540]},
[544, 555]},
[583, 594]},
[595, 612
Before you can place an order with Zeno Markets Ltd, you must read and accept this Agreement, including the risk disclosure statement, the trading policies and procedures as listed in Clause 9 below, and all applicable addenda, you must deposit sufficient clear funds in your account and your client registration form and all accompanying documents must be approved by the company. First, through the study of literature (each grade level reads a mix of fiction and nonfiction), teachers develop comprehension with an aim of meeting the Common Core Standards. A standards-based unit creation tool helps teachers develop standards-aligned questions for novels, and teachers share a base of top-quality units as part of regular professional development and common planning time. In addition to building comprehension through literature, students will learn to analyze text. Using shorter pieces of poetry and nonfiction, students learn to identify question types and return to text to find answers. Students will make both written and oral presentations to demonstrate comprehension. UPA will offer a rigorous writing curriculum designed to help students learn organization, elaboration, and flow. The curriculum will be heavily focused on sentence structure, basic grammar, and paragraph formation. Students will be expected to complete daily oral language activities in support of their grammar skills. Teachers will use a variety of grammar materials in daily mini-lessons, and students will learn step-by-step how to develop excellent sentence structures, paragraphs, and essays. Extensive pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing will be hallmarks of our writing instruction. UPrep students will be able to produce narratives, expository and persuasive essays, research papers, and literary analysis. A strong foundation in phonics prepares students to become fluent readers who analyze text using explicit comprehension strategies. This foundation of skills developed in the primary years will allow literacy instruction in the upper grades to focus on deep comprehension of a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts. UPA recognizes that reading proficiency is essential to the mastery of all other academic subjects; therefore, students must graduate from United Preparatory Academy reading at or above grade level in order to be successful in middle school, high school, and college. UPA will provide over two hundred minutes per day of English language arts instruction in grades 3–5. Our language arts program will be based on the Common Core standards, relying on a diverse mix of textbooks and teacher-created curricula to enhance student learning. Supplemental materials may include respected literature anthologies, leveled libraries, and daily grammar and writing exercises. Teachers will also make use of age-appropriate periodicals, such as Time Magazine for Kids. Literacy instruction in grades 3–5 will ease students’ transition from phonics and phonemic awareness to intermediate grammar and reading. Students will begin dissecting sentences and classifying various parts of speech, ultimately using these skills to tackle books with higher-level vocabulary and complex plots. Finally, there will be a focus on literacy in all subjects for all grades. Social studies and science classes will present the opportunity to increase students’ content knowledge in these subjects and simultaneously hone their core reading skills. Character education will be taught through literature-based lessons. Increasing reading fluency across subject areas will allow students to better access content in all of their classes. From kindergarten through third grade, United Preparatory Academy students will participate in both a daily math class focused on computation and (2) daily mathematics resources that focus on application and other critical numeracy skills (e.g., calendar, money, number line). Between grades three and five, these classes will include mathematics procedures (focusing on math computation) and mathematics problem solving (focusing on math application). In the early grades, students will use the EngageNY curriculum, a highly effective program that gives students foundation in arithmetic skills, procedural computation, and conceptual understanding. All UPrep students will have mastered addition and subtraction by the end of second grade, moving on to their times tables by the end of third grade. Students will be expected to complete basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division computations to 95 percent accuracy. Teachers will require students to apply these fundamental aptitudes in challenging problem-solving situations. Students will be expected to use basic symbols to solve simple and complex problems, gather and interpret data using graphs and charts, predict outcomes of probability experiments, and solve problems involving proportional relationships. UPA will use a problem-solving supplement that provides daily demonstration of these skills skills. Math instruction will be highly structured. The first twenty-five minutes of class, as well as all homework assignments, will include cumulative review. Each lesson will also include sections for basic facts review and problem solving. Concepts will be introduced in a set sequence emphasizing both step-by-step approaches and explanations for all mathematical processes. Math classes will make use of the rap, rhythm, and rhyme techniques pioneered by ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ and used successfully in many of the highest-performing urban schools. UPREP’s social studies curriculum will prepare students for the comprehensive and challenging Common Core standards once they matriculate into middle school. Teachers will use the Core Knowledge textbook program to present curriculum in an engaging and challenging format. Students will be expected to master key concepts and vocabulary, as well as the skills of analyzing primary sources, debating different points of view, and making cause-and-effect connections.
