Compassionate Care. 32.05 The Employer recognizes the potential need for employees to care for a gravely ill or dying family member. An Employee may request compassionate leave under the Employment Insurance Compassionate Care Benefits program. An Employee who has been granted leave under this clause may apply for a continuation of the leave if required.
Compassionate Care. (a) Notwithstanding the definition of " family" found in clause 35.14.2 and notwithstanding paragraphs 35.14.3 (b) and (d) above, an employee who provides the NRC with proof that he or she is in receipt of or awaiting Employment Insurance (EI) Compassionate Care Benefits may be granted leave for periods of less than three (3) weeks while in receipt of or awaiting these benefits.
Compassionate Care. The following information regarding the Company’s Policy on Compassionate Care is strictly for reference purposes only and it is expressly understood and acknowledged by the Union that its contents do not form part of this Collective Agreement. This notwithstanding, it is recognized that individual employee concerns flowing from the application of the Compassionate Care Policy must be resolved without delay. To this end, the Company is committed to addressing all such issues in a timely fashion with the intent to resolve all such issues expeditiously. Every employee is entitled to and shall be granted a maximum of eight (8) weeks leave from their employment within a 26 week window to care for an ill family member who has a “significant risk of death within six months” (medical certificate is required), and who requires one or more family members to provide emotional support and arrange or directly provide health care. A family member is defined as:  the employee’s spouse or common law partner;  the employee’s child or the child of the employee’s spouse or common law partner;  the employee’s parent or the spouse or common law partner of the employee’s parent. Common law partner is defined as a person who is cohabitating with the individual in a conjugal relationship, having so cohabitated for a period of at least one year. The eight (8) weeks leave does not have to be taken consecutively, however periods of leave must be at least one week at a time. The aggregate leave may be taken by two (2) or more care giving family members. Pension, health, disability benefits and seniority shall continue to accumulate during leave. Employer contributions shall also continue, unless employee contributions are required and the employee fails to make them. In addition to leave, an employee may be eligible for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. To be eligible, an employee requires 600 insurable hours. Eligible employees can receive up to six (6) weeks EI benefits. There is a two (2) week waiting period. Two (2) or more family members can share Compassionate Care benefits, however, the total benefits remain at six (6) weeks. Employees may also be granted unpaid leaves of absence on compassionate grounds for reasons other than the above on the authority of their supervisory manager provided the conditions warrant such leave.

Compassionate Care. The Employer confirms the Community Centres will develop a policy regarding Compassionate Care that is in accordance with Section 23.1 of the Employment Insurance Act and the policy will be posted in the workplace.
Compassionate Care. Leave Compassionate care leave shall be granted by the City, in accordance with Employment Standards Code requirements, to a primary caregiver who is caring for a seriously ill family member at risk of death within 26 weeks. 8.03.02.01 Compassionate care shall be applied for in writing, at the earliest possible date, allowing for 2 weeks notice prior to the start date of the leave, when circumstances permit. Employees must provide a certificate issued by the physician caring for the ill family member. The medical certificate must include information to confirm eligibility for the leave as outlined in the Code. 8.03.02.02 Compassionate care leave will be without pay and shall be for a maximum period of 8 weeks. The 8 weeks of leave must fall within the 26-week window as established by the medical certificate. A leave may be broken into 2 different periods. The 2nd period of leave must be taken before the 26-week window expires. A leave period must be at least 1 week long. If the family member does not pass away, but is still gravely ill and requires the care and support of the employee, the employee may initiate another leave application within the next 26 week window. 8.03.02.03 The employee may elect to continue to participate in the City's benefit plans in accordance with the provisions of Article 8.03.10
