The Childbirth Leave clause establishes an employee's right to take a designated period of leave from work due to childbirth. Typically, this clause outlines the duration of leave available, eligibility requirements, and whether the leave is paid or unpaid. Childbirth Leave. 17.1.6.1 An Employee shall be granted four (4) Days leave with pay to attend to the spouse, as defined in Article 1.39, in the event of the birth of their child.
Childbirth Leave. A teacher who has a child or whose spouse or partner has a child shall be entitled to five (5) days of newborn child care leave with pay within two weeks of the birth of the child. A teacher who is pregnant may continue in active employment as late into the pregnancy as she wishes, if she can fulfill the requirements of her position. Temporary disability caused by the pregnancy shall be treated as all other temporary disabilities under this Agreement. Maternity Leave shall be granted anytime between the commencement of the teacher’s pregnancy and one year following the birth of the child. The teacher may use any available accrued paid sick and personal leave.
Childbirth Leave. At the birth of an employee’s child, one (1) day of paid leave will be allowed for that employee.
Childbirth Leave. Faculty members shall be entitled to childbirth leave. Said leave shall commence and terminate at the time deemed necessary by the individual's attending physician and the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, but shall not exceed two years. If necessitated by problems of securing temporary replacement, the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ may require that the leave begin and/or end at the start of an academic semester. Childbirth leave may be charged against sick leave credits during the disability period. Remaining leave time shall be leave without pay. Faculty on childbirth leave shall not lose any previously accrued benefits.
Childbirth Leave. A regular employee shall be granted necessary time with pay to take their spouse or common law partner to a hospital, return them home from hospital, or attend the birth of their child. Such leave shall not exceed one (1) day and may be taken in two (2) half days.
Childbirth Leave. Childbirth leave refers to the period of temporary disability due to pregnancy and/or the birth of a child by an employee. The length of childbirth leave may vary and is based on the employee’s and child’s needs as verified by a treating physician.

Childbirth Leave. A. Commencing on the date of birth, ISD 196 shall grant teachers giving birth up to six (6) continuous calendar weeks or the numbers of weeks recommended by a physician. ISD 196 shall allow teachers to use any accrued paid sick and emergency/personal leave for this leave, the remainder of which shall be unpaid, as provided under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) (Section 8.6.4). Sick leave may not be used on non-duty days. Non-duty days, such as breaks, holidays, summer, and weekends count toward continuous calendar weeks. This leave may be extended under FMLA Leave and shall count toward a teacher’s FMLA Leave allowance. If a teacher requests an extension of this leave through the end of the school year, the request shall be automatically granted by ISD 196 as Family Care Leave, Section 8.6.3, on an unpaid basis.
B. The spouse of the individual giving birth may use any accrued paid sick leave based on Sections 8.1.4 C and 8.1.4 D and emergency/personal leave under Section 8.7, the remainder of which shall be unpaid, as provided under Section 8.6.4. The non-birth giving parent may use any accrued paid sick leave to care for the birth giving parent based on Sections 8.1.4 C and 8.1.4 D and emergency/personal leave under Section 8.7, the remainder of which shall be unpaid, as provided under Section 8.6.4.
C. If a teacher requests an extension of this leave through the end of the school year, the request shall be automatically granted by ISD 196 as Family Care Leave, Section 8.6.3, on an unpaid basis.
Childbirth Leave. For the purposes of 21.01 to 21.09, “EI” shall mean “Employment Insurance” or “Human Resources Development Canada – Employment Insurance.”

Effective January 1, 2023, childbirth leave will be increased to two (2) days and provided to all employees in a posted position as above.
