BUREAU OF PRISONS. Most of our equipment consists of PC compatible computers requiring standard office power outlets that have power surge protection and line filters. The main computer room which will contain file servers, workstations, switches, routers, and other similar equipment must have its own separate air-conditioning system since most building systems are reduced or “cut-off’ over the weekend. This can cause major heat problems, especially over long weekends during summer months. The air-conditioning system must operate 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The main computer room needs to be a separate lockable room. The main computer room must have a minimum of 12 dedicated NEMA 5-20 circuits (commercial grade, duplex receptacle, isolated ground). The building will have to be wired with cat Sc or cat 6 data cables with a minimum of 2 RJ-45 receptacles, in each office, terminating back to a cabinet enclosed rack patch panel in the main computer room. Any cable run exceeding 300 ft must use 12 strand multi-mode fiber optic cable. The computer lab must be of sufficient size to accommodate 16 student work areas, one A/V system, and two resource workstations. A minimum of 16 cat 5e 05 cat 6 drops connecting to the main computer room is required. A minimum of 12 quad receptacle outlets are required, no more than 2 per 20 amp circuit.
