Common use of Bereavement Clause in Contracts

Bereavement. (a) An Employee shall be entitled to a bereavement leave without loss of regular pay and benefits in the event of the death of a member of their family, as follows: i. where the death is of the Employee’s spouse, son, daughter, spouse’s child, step- child, ▇▇▇▇, brother, sister, father, or mother, the bereavement leave shall be up to ii. where the death is of the Employee’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchild, grandmother, grandfather, spouse’s grandparent, step-mother or step-father, the bereavement leave shall be up to 5 consecutive calendar days, excluding paid holidays. (b) Where an Employee’s scheduled vacation is interrupted due to the death of a member of their family, the Employee shall be entitled to bereavement leave in accordance with Article 16.01(a). The portion of the Employee’s vacation which is deemed to be bereavement leave shall be rescheduled in accordance with Article 16.04(b). (c) If bereavement leave is required in the event of the death of a person significant to the Employee and not specifically named in Article 16.01(a), or additional bereavement leave is required in circumstances covered by Article 16.01(a), it may be granted up to a maximum of 3 days by arrangement with the Employee’s Supervisor. Such request will not be unreasonably denied.

Bereavement. (a) An Employee shall A Faculty Member may be entitled to a bereavement leave absent from duty without loss of regular pay and benefits in not to exceed three (3) duty days, to attend funeral or memorial services or to attend to the event affairs of the decedent as a result of the death of a member of their the Faculty Member's immediate family. If out-of-state travel or more than 250 miles one-way is required, the leave may be extended to five (5) duty days. At the Faculty Member’s option, bereavement leave may be distributed over a period of six (6) calendar months following the death. (b) If an additional period of absence from duty is required for this purpose, a Faculty Member may be granted additional bereavement leave, which additional leave shall be charged as follows:personal necessity leave, to the extent such leave is available to the Faculty Member as provided in Section 9 of this Article. i. where the death is (c) Members of the Employee’s spouse, son, daughter, spouse’s "immediate family" shall mean child, step- childmother, ▇▇▇▇father, brother, sister, father, or mother, the bereavement leave shall be up to ii. where the death is of the Employee’s father-in-law, motherfather-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild of the employee or employee's spouse, the spouse, son-in-law, daughter-in-lawlaw of the employee, grandchildregistered domestic partner or any person living in the immediate household of the employee. The portion for these other persons on approval of the Employee’s vacation which is deemed to be bereavement leave shall be rescheduled in accordance with Article 16.04(b)appropriate College Administrator. (c) If bereavement leave is required in the event of the death of a person significant to the Employee and not specifically named in Article 16.01(a), or additional bereavement leave is required in circumstances covered by Article 16.01(a), it may be granted up to a maximum of 3 days by arrangement with the Employee’s Supervisor.
