Common use of Association Deductions Clause in Contracts

Association Deductions. Any certificated employee who is a member of the Association, or who has applied for membership, shall sign and deliver an authorization form to the Association. Such membership authorization shall continue in effect from year-to-year unless revoked in writing and sent to the Association and the District between August 1 and September 30 of each year. Dues deductions for certificated employees employed after the commencement of the school year shall be appropriately prorated, consistent with the Association dues policy. No member of the bargaining unit will be required to join the Association; however, those employees who are not Association member(s) (but are members of the bargaining unit) will be required to pay a fair share representation fee to the Association. The amount of the fair share representation fee will be determined by the Association and transmitted to the Business Office in writing. The fair share representation fee shall be an amount less than the regular dues for the Association membership, in that nonmembers shall be neither required nor allowed to make a political (WEA-PAC or NEA-FCPE) deduction. The fair share representation fee shall be regarded as fair compensation and reimbursement to the Association for fulfilling its legal obligation to represent all members of the bargaining unit.
