Application and Approval. A teacher must make written application to the Director of Education on or before January 31, requesting permission to participate in the Plan. Written acceptance, or denial, of the teacher's request, with explanation, will be forwarded to the teacher by May 1st in the school year the original request is made. The number of leaves granted for any one year shall not exceed two percent (2%) of the number of teachers employed by the Board. The number of leaves granted to take effect in any given year may be restricted by program requirements at the school or system level. Approval of individual requests to participate in the Plan shall rest solely with the Board.
