ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS. During an absence due to accident or sickness, an employee shall maintain and accumulate seniority for a period not to exceed twenty-four (24) months. Upon return from such absence, employees shall be returned to the classification held at the time of absence, or to one of equal rating, provided they are capable of performing former duties and provided the Company has received an acceptable reason for and/or authorized the absence. It shall be the duty of each employee to notify the Company of the reason for absence, to furnish evidence to support the absence and to keep the Company informed of the anticipated date of return to duty.

ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS. 9.01 (a) A regular full-time employee who is absent by reason of incapacity caused by an accident or occupational illness occurring while on duty and who is granted temporary total disability benefits from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board shall be provided with hospital and medical care in accordance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and will be paid the difference between the amount of such award and the employee’s basic daily wage. The difference between the award and the employee’s basic daily wage shall be calculated so that the employee’s net (take-home) pay matches but does not exceed the employee’s normal net (take-home) pay. The full salary shall be considered as a W.S.I.B. benefit and employer top-up to net.

An employee with a date of commencement of employment prior to January who is, at the time of his retirement, actively engaged at his duties or absent on authorized leave, shall be entitled to receive a sick leave gratuity on one, but not both, of the following bases: On the date of retirement, he may be granted a sick leave gratuity in cash equal to his salary, wages or other remuneration for one-half the number of days standing to his credit and in any event not in excess of the amount of one half year’s earnings at the rate received by him immediately prior to termination of employment; or With the consent of the Fire Chief, in lieu of the sick leave gratuity which would otherwise be paid in cash in accordance with the foregoing, such employee may be granted retirement leave with full pay for a period equal to one half the number of days standing to his credit and in any event, not in excess of a period of six months. The employee shall give at least three months notice of desire to so use the credit, and the consent of the Fire Chief shall not then be unreasonably withheld. Such leave shall be completed as of the date of normal retirement. Deductions from accumulated sick leave credits of an employee shall only be made in respect of periods of duty for which the employee would normally be required or scheduled to work, if not on sick leave. In the event of the decease of any employee with a date of commencement of employment prior to January or the termination of his employment with the Employer, after eight (8) years of service with the Employer, the Employer shall pay to the employee (or estate) an amount equal to the regular pay of the employee for one-half the number of days of sick leave standing to his credit at the time of such decease or termination of employm...

ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS. The employees off duty as a result of an accident or occupational illness incurred in the performance of their duty shall be provided with free hospitalization and medical care and salary during such period off duty up to but not exceeding six months from the date of the accident or the commencement of the occupational illness. Provided however, that nothing herein contained shall in any way limit the rights of the employees under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, or any other Act, Regulation or By-law passed by any body with competentjurisdiction for the protection or benefit of the employees. Provided however, in no case shall the total sums paid to and received by an employee, exclusive of hospitalization and medical care, exceed full salary of the employee, for the period such employee was off duty. While an employee is on Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Benefits for up to six (6) months, the Employer will deduct from the employee's sick pay bank, when available, day for each day on Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Benefits that the employee would have been required to work by normal scheduling, and pay the employee an amount equal to the difference paid by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and the employee's regular pay. Employees on Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Benefits for a period longer than six (6) months shall, so long as they have sick day credits, have their Workplace Safety and Insurance payment supplemented by the Corporation to the extent of day sick pay for each day they would have been required to work by normal scheduling. Any payments under this clause shall cease upon any settlement of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Employees will be granted one and one half (1 days per month sick leave with unlimited accumulation days per year). An employee claiming sick leave shall report to the office of the Fire Chief as early as possible on the day which the sick leave is claimed. When an employee has been informed by their physician that their illness shall extend over a period of time, the employee shall report facts of their to the Chief as early as possible and shall not be required to report again until the employee is prepared to return to work. Employees absent for three or more days may be required to present a Doctor's Certificate, upon returning to work, to their immediate Supervisor. ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS. 9.02 (c) An employee who is absent from work over twenty-four (24) hours shall provide the Fire Chief with a certificate from a physician within ten (10) calendar days from the commencement of sickness or immediately upon return to work, whichever occurs first, reporting the duration or probable duration of the sickness with the first and most recent dates of attendance upon the employee, and the expected date of return to work.
ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS. 24:01 Sick Leave means the period of time an employee is permitted to be absent from work by virtue of being sick, disabled, quarantined, or because of a non-work related accident not covered under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
