by-product definition

by-product means a product which results from preparation of a fruit or vegetable product which has a positive economic value but is not the main intended result;
by-product means a substance that is produced as part of a process that is primarily intended to produce another substance or product and that has the characteristics of an equivalent virgin product or material;
by-product means a material that is not one of the pri- mary products of a production process and is not solely or separately produced by the production process. Examples are process residues such as slags or distillation column bottoms.
