Semester of Appointment. Following the first semester of appointment, a faculty member may select a new mentor or mentoring team, or choose to continue with the original mentor(s). Their selection shall be reported to the Chair and the Xxxx. In addition, the first semester mentor or mentoring team may terminate the relationship and recommend that the probationary faculty member find a new mentor/team. For the selection of a mentoring team, the probationary faculty member should try to select tenured faculty from his or her discipline, area of interest, and/or related disciplines. This may mean that the mentoring team is comprised of faculty from more than one discipline and department.

The mentoring process shall begin prior to the beginning of the first semester, during Faculty Development week. In the beginning phases the mentor should include information about the university community and academic culture, university expectations, and policies and procedures. The procedures for mentoring will vary widely across the university and within Colleges and Schools.
