Nursing Duties. In order to provide the necessary time to perform properly the duties of their job classification, registered nurses will not routinely be asked to assume responsibilities outside their classification. Housekeeping duties, clerical duties, and other duties which can be and normally are performed by para-professional employees shall not be required of the registered nurse, other than in irregular or unusual circumstances.
Nursing Duties. Employees shall not be expected to perform the duties traditionally performed by school nurses. This section of the agreement is intended to clarify that if a school is not staffed with a school nurse at all times, the school nurse’s duties shall not be shifted to certificated employees. When a student complains of illness (not fatigue), employees may send the student to the school office. Employees shall not be expected to call parents or guardians regarding a student’s complaint of illness or injury. Except in emergencies or on field trips or other off-campus activities, employees shall not be expected to supervise or retain ill or injured students in a classroom, workspace, or elsewhere at the school during the regular work day. Employees shall not be expected to administer medications except on field trips and at other school supervised activities off-site with the written plan provided by a school nurse. Employees shall not be required to test students for any health related matters (e.g., blood sugar level, screening). Employees shall not be required to inspect students for lice or nits or other communicable illnesses. Employees shall not be expected to clean students beyond routine hygiene practices or change their clothes. Employees may be trained to utilize an EpiPen, and may be trained on how to respond to diabetes and other life-threatening conditions if they are responsible for students with these conditions Employees assigned to a Functional Skills and Academics Class shall continue to meet the physical and personal care needs caused by their students’ disability. This shall not include tracheotomy care and maintenance, administering medications (except on field trips and at other school supervised activities off-site with the school nurse’s written plan), catheterization, or other duties of a medical nature unless there is approval between the nurse, teacher and the administrator.
Nursing Duties. Bargaining unit employees shall not be required to perform skilled nursing duties, examples (injections, catheterizations, etc.) If a nurse is available in the building, bargaining unit employees will not be required to perform routine medical procedures, examples (give student medications, care for sick students, administer first aide, etc.)

  • Surgery Services This plan covers surgery services to treat a disease or injury when: • the operation is not experimental or investigational, or cosmetic in nature; • the operation is being performed at the appropriate place of service; and • the physician is licensed to perform the surgery. Preauthorization may be required for certain surgical services. Reconstructive Surgery for a Functional Deformity or Impairment This plan covers reconstructive surgery and procedures when the services are performed to relieve pain, or to correct or improve bodily function that is impaired as a result of: • a birth defect; • an accidental injury; • a disease; or • a previous covered surgical procedure. Functional indications for surgical correction do not include psychological, psychiatric or emotional reasons. This plan covers the procedures listed below to treat functional impairments. • abdominal wall surgery including panniculectomy (other than an abdominoplasty); • blepharoplasty and ptosis repair; • gastric bypass or gastric banding; • nasal reconstruction and septorhinoplasty; • orthognathic surgery including mandibular and maxillary osteotomy; • reduction mammoplasty; • removal of breast implants; • removal or treatment of proliferative vascular lesions and hemangiomas; • treatment of varicose veins; or • gynecomastia. Preauthorization may be required for these services.

  • Outpatient Dental Anesthesia Services This plan covers anesthesia services received in connection with a dental service when provided in a hospital or freestanding ambulatory surgical center and: • the use of this is medically necessary; and • the setting in which the service is received is determined to be appropriate. This plan also covers facility fees associated with these services.

  • Staff Nurse A registered nurse who is responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of the patient.

  • Private Duty Nursing Services This plan covers private duty nursing services, received in your home when ordered by a physician, and performed by a certified home healthcare agency. This plan covers these services when the patient requires continuous skilled nursing observation and intervention.

  • Habilitative Services Habilitative Services are healthcare services that help you keep, learn, or improve skills and functioning for daily living. These services are Covered and may require Prior Authorization. Examples include therapy for a child who isn’t walking or talking at the expected age. These services may include physical and occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and other services for people with disabilities in a variety of inpatient and/or outpatient settings.

  • Anesthesia Services This plan covers general and local anesthesia services received from an anesthesiologist when the surgical procedure is a covered healthcare service. This plan covers office visits or office consultations with an anesthesiologist when provided prior to a scheduled covered surgical procedure.

  • Chiropractic Services This plan covers chiropractic visits up to the benefit limit shown in the Summary of Medical Benefits. The benefit limit applies to any visit for the purposes of chiropractic treatment or diagnosis.

  • Skilled Nursing Facilities a. The following Health Care Services may be Covered Services when you are a patient in a Skilled Nursing Facility: i. room and board;

  • Resident Nurse A registered nurse whose clinical experience after graduation is less than six (6) months, or a registered nurse who is returning to practice with no current clinical training or experience. A resident nurse shall be assigned under the close and direct supervision of a designated preceptor(s) and shall have limited responsibilities as defined by the supervisor. Residency shall not exceed six (6) continuous months unless extended in writing for an additional three (3) months when mutually agreed to by the Employer and individual nurse involved. A resident nurse who is required to function continuously without close and direct supervision and who is assigned the same level of responsibilities as a staff nurse shall be compensated at the staff nurse rate of pay. Nurses working under close and direct supervision shall not be assigned charge duty or as a team leader without a staff nurse being present in the unit, except in cases of emergency.

  • Educational Services Any service or supply for education, training or retraining services or testing including: special education, remedial education; cognitive remediation; wilderness/outdoor treatment, therapy or adventure programs (whether or not the program is part of a Residential Treatment facility or otherwise licensed institution); job training or job hardening programs; educational services and schooling or any such related or similar program including therapeutic programs within a school setting.
