Educational experiences. 9.1 Perceptions of professors Students rated their levels of agreement with a series of statements about their professors. Most students reported having had positive experiences with university faculty. At the high end, at least 9 in 10 first-year students agreed with the following: ► Most of my professors treat students the same regardless of race (55% strongly agreed) ► Most of my professors treat students the same regardless of gender (55% strongly agreed) ► Most of my professors seem knowledgeable in their fields (36% strongly agreed) ► Most of my professors are reasonably accessible outside of class (14% strongly agreed) At the lower end, about 2 in 3 first-year students agreed with the following: ► Most of my professors provide useful feedback on my academic work (9% strongly agreed) ► Most of my professors provide prompt feedback on my academic work (7% strongly agreed) ► Most of my professors take a personal interest in my academic progress (9% strongly agreed) Generally, students indicate similar experiences with professors across groups, although Group 1 students tend to be more likely than students in other groups to agree or strongly agree; however, none of these differences meet the criteria for being statistically different.

At the high end, more than 9 in 10 graduating students agree with the following: ► Most of my professors seem knowledgeable in their fields (43% strongly agree) ► Most of my professors treat students the same regardless of race (59% strongly agree) ► Most of my professors treat students the same regardless of gender (58% strongly agree) ► Most of my professors are reasonably accessible outside of class (23% strongly agree) ► Most of my professors encourage students to participate in class discussions (31% strongly agree) At the lower end, about 7 in 10 graduating students agree with the following: ► Most of my professors provide useful feedback on my academic work (13% strongly agree) ► Most of my professors take a personal interest in my academic progress (14% strongly agree) ► Most of my professors provide prompt feedback on my academic work (11% strongly agree) Generally, students indicate similar experiences with professors across groups, with the exception of the three lowest rate aspects. For these three, Group 1 students are more likely to agree with each statement than Group 2 or Group 3 students.
